— John Bard- Owner of Integrated Home Improvements
Description Of Work:
I had a large, leaky chimney. He removed it to below the roof line, patched and re-shingled the roof and installed a gas vent.

Customer Comments:
During a recent December rainstorm and despite a recently re-done roof, I had water leaking into the house and staining my ceiling in the vicinity of my large chimney. It was a chimney installed in 1956; it had one actual flue and two “fake” flues apparently installed for decorative purposes.
I crawled up into my attic during the storm and saw water clearly coming in around the chimney. I could see even below the roof line that the chimney was in bad shape. I found John on Angie’s List and contacted him. He was very responsive, and because I had pictures to show him of the situation, he was able to give me a price very quickly. It was a price I thought fair. John kept me informed of when he was coming and he and his assistant arrived as promised. They professionally removed the chimney to below roof line and installed a gas vent according to code. All materials were cleaned up and recycled as promised. I highly recommend John as being prompt, professional and reliable.

Description Of Work:
Installed a protruding faux stone backing wall behind propane stove and re pointed chimney.

Customer Comments:
John is a professional through and through. He was easy to get a hold of and always called back (if he didn’t answer the phone immediately). He was punctual and provided us a very accurate schedule as to when he could get the job done. He answered emails promptly.
John came out to see the job soon after contact, brought a brochure for us to pick our stone, and directed us where to go to see it in person. It was a very high quality, very real looking stone. Once we selected our stone for the wall, he ordered all the materials and picked them up. The job took two days, a Saturday and a Monday. The worker he brought with him was also very skilled, professional and courteous.
John’s pricing was fair and reasonable. It helped that he quoted us HALF of what another highly-rated Angie’s list mason quoted us for the same work. He gave a us a detailed bill so we could see where our money was going. He does not mark up the cost of materials. He also honored the Angie’s list coupon we had for 10% off. When he didn’t have to install a new concrete cap on our chimney, he took it off the bill. You don’t come across this kind of integrity in business everyday.
Of particular importance to me was the “look” of the wall. It is art, and John has an artistic eye. He was responsive to feedback. In fact, he preferred it when I told him, for example, “I prefer this color stone over that one,” so he could do it the way we wanted and have us love the work, and we do. (The chimney looks great too.)

Description Of Work:
Integrated did a number of masonry projects for us.
1) Repointed in several places on the garage and house.
2) Removed a cracked windowsill and replaced it with a new cut stone sill.
3) Removed a chunk of the stone chimney facing, repaired water damage, and replaced the shoulder stone and rebuilt the facing.

Customer Comments:
It’s rare that a conversation with a contractor makes you smile, but John is so pleasant to work with that I did.

When choosing a company to do this job, we found ourselves weighing two estimates: the one from Integrated and one from another company. The price difference was significant, but so was the work. Integrated promised to do the structural repairs described above, while the other contractor was only going to make cosmetic repairs. We decided that we were willing to pay more for longer-lasting work.

We had to pay up front for the cut stone sill plus a deposit on the rest of the work. We had to wait a while for the new sill to be ready, but that was not in Integrated’s control.

Description Of Work:
Chimney (small) repointing, new concrete cap and seal flashing. I was very happy with the job and John was very helpful in finding a reasonable-cost plan to fix our issue. Took a bit of time to schedule the work but very responsive to calls/emails and understandable, as this was a smaller job and he is very busy with other larger projects.
— Jill Horwitz

Description Of Work:
examined my chimney and did the repair.

Customer Comments:
he advised that the kind of work I asked him to do was more challenging than what the contract was worth but since I had already paid that he would complete the task. Above and beyond the call. Friendly and informative.
— Daisy McLaughlin

Description Of Work:
New front steps and pointing up chimney and back porch. New chimney cap and sealing the front porch along with some pointing up. John was very creative and helped us come up with a new plan to replace the steps, one that would allow us to use our existing railing and still give us an appropriate rise. John Bard was very motivated and diligent. We felt that he really cared about building a strong business by completely fulfilling his contract. We would definitely use him again and recommend him to a friend.
— Cheryl Smyth

Description Of Work:
Capped off chimney that no longer has anything venting into it.

Customer Comments:
I’ve had issues with water damage into the house presumably coming from chimney directly behind the wall. Flashing was all repaired two years ago and still I would get occasional water between chimney and house. It took me almost a year to get a mason to the house to look. I had another provider who charged me to set up scaffolding then told me it had to be torn down and built back up or remove hot water heater and furnace that was hooked up and then chimney torn down to the roof line - a large ticket item.
I reached out to others, including John at Integrated Home Improvement to get a second opinion. He used a ladder to get to top of chimney, took pictures and explained to me
how water was getting in from the top and the main issue with the chimney. He gave me options with consequences of each and fully explained the problem, costs, etc. We decided for the Fall he would simply cap the flews with aluminum and caulk whic hshould take care of the water issue, monitor the water issue in winter/spring and then pursue long-term solution for the aging chimney. His price for this minor service was $275 and he said he would take off any larger project. His professionalism and not ONLY recommending more costly solution went a long way with me.
He was very responsive to all calls, either answered the phone or get back to me within a few hours. And was on time for both appointments I had with him.

Description Of Work:
This was a three part job. John disassembled and rebuild brick column and portion of facade on front corner of home; replaced a basement support post with new footer; disassembled a chimney that was no longer in use and patched roof.

Customer Comments:
All went very well. John was very professional and thorough in explaining what the job entailed. He was able to reuse the all the bricks and use mortar that matched perfectly. The job was completed in just a couple of days and really looks great. He showed how he tied the column in to ensure it’s secure.
— Bill Ferguson

Description Of Work:
John replaced the bottom step on my front porch and straightened up and mortared a cement border marker. John was very professional and punctual. He called to discuss the work and scheduled the work quickly. He showed up on time and threw himself into the work. He explained everything he was going to do and was doing. He also tried to come up with creative ways to handle the border marker that tipped over. He dyed the concrete for the front step to better match the rest of the porch. Everything was done beautifully and I would not hesitate to use his services for all my future masonry projects. I have already provided his name to others who are looking for a good mason. I can’t speak highly enough of John and his work.
— Nadine Gjurich

Customer Comments:
I am very happy with the work. John was great to work with. He explained everything to me in detail and evaluated all my options with me. We actually exchanged about 20 emails before he started the work because I kept coming up with questions and he always answered right away. John was extremely professional and I am very satisfied with the work. The work was done on time as promised, and he even did a couple little extra things for me free of charge. I have some interior work that I plan on calling John to do this winter.

He did some masonry work for us. He replaced two handles in the basement windows and trimmed up some masonry and he integrated it to the rest of the house.

Definitely good! He was efficient, on time, completed the work done to our specification, punctual, came when he said he was coming, completed the work when he said it would be and he was very fairly priced.

Description Of Work:
Estimated repairs to stucco on a historic home

Customer Comments:
I loved his attention to detail. He put in a lot of effort to make sure he understood the job up as best as he could. Ultimately they were not able to take on the project because it turned out to be a bigger job than they was able to accommodate. I would absolutely use this contractor for smaller masonry jobs
— Craig Drabik

Customer Comments:
Excellent communication, very professional, and quoted me the best rate. He suggested various options that could save me even more money. I did not have the budget at this time to have him do the work, and will look to secure his services in the late Spring.
